Breaking: Trump Officially Renames Lake Ontario “lake America”

It wasn’t just a joke.

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an Executive Order directing the U.S. government to officially rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America.”
The order directs the U.S. Secretary of the Interior and Board on Geographic Names to implement the change within 30 days and update federal maps, documents and communications.

Trump argues that the lake is a “tremendous asset to the United States,” citing American investment in the Great Lakes, shipping, security and its historical importance to the U.S.

The order only controls how the U.S. federal government refers to the lake — Canada is not required to recognize the new name.

The extraordinary move comes just days after Trump first floated the idea amid escalating tensions between Canada and the United States.
